Quick Freebie

Don't have a lot of time to post right now. Trying to finish up writing lesson plans for the week while my baby boy is fussy and my big boy is running around the house destroying stuff! Oh well, such is life! Wouldn't have it any other day. Anyway, I made this freebie to use with a lesson I am teaching this week. It is number cards to 20 with 10 frames so they can see "10 and some more". I am going to have the students cut the number cards out for morning work while I am checking folders and put them in a snack bag in their toolboxes. I will explain the toolboxes in a later post. For my lesson, they will order the number cards 1-20. I will ask, “How can you check to see if your numbers are in the right order?” (Possible answers-count it again, look on the number path/hundred’s chart/calendar to see if the numbers are in correct order.) Explain that the numbers 11-19 are called “teen” numbers. This will be a warm up in my first "official" lesson on teen numbers. I am just so happy to be teaching this week! We tested all last week!

Candy Heart Problem Solving!

Whew! I have been SOOO busy lately! I promise I will start posting more over spring break and summer. I am barely keeping on top of everything I have to do for school. Also, I am still learning all of this blog stuff. It took me about 3 hours to get my newest TPT product up. It only took me about an hour to make it, but an extra 2 hours to figure out the best way to make it a PDF and keep the format the same. I actually had to take some of it out because I could not figure out how to format it in google docs. I will offer what I took out as a freebie in word. Hopefully, I will get better at this soon! I have tons of great ideas, and have made tons of great stuff for my classroom....I just need to figure out how to get it to you! My newest product is for Valentine's Day. I love to celebrate Valentine's Day in my classroom! We make a whole day out of it. In the morning, we will pass out valentines. I send home a list of names of the students in my class ahead of time. On Thursday, the kiddos will read the names of their friends on the valentines and pass them out. We will also do an opinion writing activity. I got the activity from Miss-Kindergarten. The students will write and draw about the things they love. For math, we will sort our candy hearts and graph them. I will have a few students come to the front and present their data. The other students will be invited to ask questions about the data (ex. Which color did you have the most of?) Then, we will do this activity that I created: Candy Heart Problem Solving!

Phonemic Awareness

Good morning! I have a cute activity to teach phonemic awareness that I am doing with my class this week. I am using a tongue twister! How fun is this? I learned about using tongue twisters at a workshop I went to last year. I also do something similar with my student of the week. I take the child's name and get the students to replace sounds in the child's name. They all get a good giggle out of it. Here is an example. If the student of the week is Ben, I say "Let's take off the B and add an H". I also get them to change the middle and ending sounds too. "Take off the E and add an A".

First Freebie!

I am very excited to offer my first freebie! This freebie is a reading response form! You can use this with any text. It is a story map that your students can either draw or write their answer. I encourage my students to do BOTH (even if it is just invented spelling). I hope you find this useful in your classroom!
